These shoes were very comfortable in the store when I tried them on, however, when I got on the route and got on uneven surfaces, like lawns, I found them unstable. The sole is too thick and the insole is too thick which puts you too high up and they make you wobble when you go on lawns and uneven surfaces which is harder on your knees and ankles. I tried different, flatter insoles which made them more stable, but I lost the nice soft, cushioned feel. Also, as the shoes break in, the eyelets are coming closer together and they may get too close to tighten properly.
The laces do not stay tied and have to be double knotted. These are very nice shoes and I really want to like them. Suggestions to Thorogood 1) Reduce the thickness of the sole for better stability. 2) Make the eyelets further apart (at least twice the current width). 3) Put a little longer padded tongue on the shoe. I have one foot a little larger and wider than the other and I believe making the eyelets further apart and a padded tongue would help me snug up the shoe to the smaller foot.

I don’t think you can get a more comfortable shoe to wear. If you’re on your feet all day give them a try and you won’t regret your purchase and your feet will love you forever!

These are a comfortable shoe, I wear them as a work shoe, standing/moving on concrete floor in my wood shop… although for me I have to leave the top grommets empty and tie them in the second from the top, otherwise it causes pain on the top of my foot (only reason for 4 stars)… so far (about a month) I really like them. They seem like they will hold up for a long time, especially with regular care.

This is the third and fourth pair I have bought. I’m a city carrier and rotate my shoes even/odd days so they get a a break and air out (30 year Army vet lol!). My first two pair are ready to retire just at the four year mark (two year wear for each shoe). These shoes are very comfortable. The insole is thick as others have mentioned but I have had no issues with it. The leather upper is iindestructible… They have filled with water numerous times at cluster boxes with zero sign of separation of any kind. The insoles do wear out and I have replaced the with an over the counter substitutes to extend shoe life. The liner has worn through in the heel area as “fair wear and tear”. My sole (heel strike) is worn down but I did not experience chipping/flaking of the sole as others may have. Just a nice even burn off from walking to the point I need to replace them. I’m not on a walking route so that may have increased their service length somewhat. Highly recommend these shoes.

Very nice shoe. I wish I had known about them sooner.
The one comment I would make is that the insole pad is a bit thick.
I am 5’7″ so I can use the little bit of altitude these give me but I feel different
muscles in my calf being used and I occasionally trip over my own toes. Of-course this is easily remedied with a different insert. Otherwise I like them a lot.

I bought a pair of these through MidWest Boots. It was the first pair of shoes I had ever bought online. To my relief, they were sized correctly and fit just fine. I wear them walking the dog in all kinds of weather and in all kinds of environments. I haven’t had a lick of problem with these shoes. They are tough, durable and comfortable all at the same time. As an added bonus, they clean up beautifully. I’m sorry the other fellow got a bum pair. Mine are great and if they ever wear out, I’m certainly buying another pair.

I bought these at Buzzard’s Family Shoes in Loudonville Ohio, and loved them immediately. I told them what I wanted and they were very courteous in selecting for me. I can say these shoes were very comfortable when I could wear them. Unfortunately the heals and parts of the soles started to flake off after a time, first in small, then in large pieces. The leather uppers are in very good condition, and I would buy them again if it were not for the problem I had with the soles breaking up. I’m not sure if the polyurethane outsole can be repaired or replaced.
